Contact Improvisation Beginners Course - taster class (drop in)

Welcome to this taster class for the four week beginners course in Contact Improvisation, starting Thursday 5th of March. In these taster sessions you’ll get a feel for the breadth of the beginners course, and an introduction to the subtle ways Contact Improvisation explores dancing together, both in and out of contact.

Contact Improvisation Class with Justin "Principles of Lifts", followed by Jam

Fri 20th Feb '26, 7:00pm – 10:00pm

We'll explore some of the core principles of lifting. Starting by focusing on the experience of lifting our own weight, and then moving on to some partner exercises with a focus on listening, consent and progressive weight sharing, We'll make space for ease, synchronization and fluidity to arise, rather than chasing the attainment of specific external forms.

Caroline Waters is a Freelance Performer, Organiser and Arts Educator currently based in Brighton UK. Mainly drawing from CI and New Dance practices, She teaches, performs and directs in various situations ranging from the performic to the therapeutic, working with both professionals and non-professionals.

Contact Improvisation Beginners Course with Justin

This course exists to create a safe, welcoming and fun container in which to discover and explore the foundations of Contact Improvisation (CI). It is open to anyone who would like to gain a solid grounding in the basics of CI.

Contact Improvisation Class with Nikki Kavanagh "Falling with Confidence", followed by Jam

Fri 6th Mar '26, 7:00pm – 10:00pm
Brighton Ki Centre, Brighton

During this class, we will explore falling, landing, melting, resisting in order to support jam work that will enable dancers to find flight, so that we can fall safely, finding new ways of moving within ourselves and with others. Nikki Watson is a performer, choreographer and the Artistic Director of CoDa Dance Company.

Contact Improvisation Class with Marie Chabert "Building Trust", followed by Jam

In this class we begin by bringing our mind into the body through a guided warm-up focused on spinal awareness and our relationship with gravity. Using simple imagery and key anatomical landmarks, we explore how the spine moves and how the body situates itself in space.
